The Houston Independent School District and Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas have announced a partnership to launch the innovative 3DE model at Austin High School.

United around the belief that equitable access to high-quality education is a lever to economic mobility, 3DE transforms learning to be more interconnected and better reflect the real world. The program will serve ninth-grade students this fall and will continue to grow as students move to the next grade level.

The 3DE program is designed to help drive student engagement and opportunity in high school to better prepare students for the demands of tomorrow’s economy. The 3DE model will help students achieve this by teaching them critical skills and knowledge in all content areas by combining traditional learning and with real-world experiences.

“Launching 3DE at Austin High School is an exciting development for our students, parents, business partners and HISD stakeholders,” HISD Interim Superintendent Grenita Lathan said. “Using an innovative model, 3DE will complement our high school portfolio with rigorous standards-based education and real-world instruction, resulting in positive outcomes for the high school community and HISD as a whole.”

The 3DE model launched in 2015 through a partnership with Junior Achievement and Fulton County Schools and will expand this fall to 23 schools in four states including Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Texas, and Washington, D.C. Outcomes for 3DE include:

• 71% outperformance on percentage of students scoring proficient or above for state end-of-course assessments
• 94% graduation rate from the class of 2020 – a 34% increase in graduation rates from the year prior to the launch of 3DE at the respective high schools
