Heather Luebbers has been selected as the new principal of Burbank Elementary School. Luebbers currently serves as Assistant Principal for Burbank. During her tenure at Burbank, she has led the implementation of R.T.I., Balanced Literacy Instructional Framework, and served as the Magnet Coordinator of the Fine Arts Program. She began her educational career as a middle school science teacher, has taught 4th and 5th grades, and also served as an instructional specialist and teacher specialist. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Sioux Falls, master’s in Business Administration from the University of Houston and completed the Educational Leadership Program at the University of St. Thomas.

Burbank ES, Lyons ES named to 2017 America’s Best Urban Schools list
Burbank and Lyons elementary schools are among 27 schools from across the country named to the 2017 America’s Best Urban Schools list by the National Center for Urban School Transformation (NCUST).
Selected from thousands of schools in the nation, Burbank was named a Gold Level winner and Lyons was honored with a Silver Level award.
Gold Level prize winners were announced at the 2017 America’s Best Urban Schools Symposium on May 16 in Nashville, Tenn. Both Burbank and Lyons participated in the symposium and presented about their campuses. Continue reading
Burbank Elementary staff team up for scavenger hunt
Teachers and staff at Burbank Elementary are gearing up for the first day of school by participating in team building activities. Earlier this week, they participated in a scavenger hunt where teams had to decipher clues at various locations around the city, including Discovery Green and the driving range at Memorial Park. Burbank ES Teacher Robert Wiseman says the winning team members each received $70 to put toward the purchase of new school supplies.
Students attending Burbank ES and hundreds of other HISD schools begin classes on Monday, August 27.
