Facilities Services thanks its “lucky stars” during welcome back ceremony

Houston Independent School District’s Facility Services rolled out the red carpet for employees on Wednesday during a Hollywood-themed Welcome Back event designed to recognize workers for their outstanding performance.

Several hundred Facilities Services employees packed the bleachers of Barnett Fieldhouse to learn about new changes for the coming school year, including the development of new departmental values. Employees received surveys during the event to provide input on the values that are most important to them, as well as feedback on ways to improve the workplace culture and environment.

“Each of you is important,” Facility Services Officer Alisha Jolivette said as she addressed the crowd. “You have an impact on student education.”

Managers from HISD Facility Services stopped by Atherton Elementary School this week to pay tribute and deliver lunch to the men and women working behind the scenes to keep campuses in good shape.

The stop was part of a campaign to honor the hardworking crews by delivering 1,300 lunches to HISD campuses and district support facilities. Continue reading

HISD schools receive top accolades in EPA’s Energy Star National Building Competition

School at St. George Place ranked top in nation for energy savings amongst K-12 school buildings

Nine campuses from across the Houston Independent School District were recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for reducing energy consumption by at least 20 percent over the last year.

The schools were recognized in June as part of the EPA’s 2015 Energy Star National Building Competition Battle of the Buildings Team Challenge, which encouraged organizations across the country to compete in their efforts to reduce energy and water consumption.

Piney Point ES wins inaugural districtwide Earth Month Campaign

HISD’s Energy and Sustainability department has announced the winner of its first districtwide Earth Month Campaign to raise awareness about the environment and promote sustainable actions that reduce campus carbon footprints.

HISD joining Lights Out Houston to help conserve energy, save money

Houston ISD will join the city in going dark for Lights Out Houston by turning off all lights for four days this week to reduce electricity consumption.

Lights Out Houston encourages businesses to take a pledge to save energy by turning off building lights overnight beginning at 10 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.

The HISD Facility Services Department will turn lights off at 304 district facilities, including schools and the administrative building. The HISD Police Department and the district’s alarm communications facility will keep its lights on since both are 24-hour facilities.
