Students who plan to take summer school for either course credit, STAAR re-testing, completing courses early or other reasons will begin taking classes very soon.
Each principal will decide their dates of summer school with most campuses expected to begin on June 11, 2013, with an end date ranging from July 3 through July 18. All schools will be closed on July 4.
Classes will be held Monday through Thursday, as the district is closed on Fridays throughout the summer. Some services, such as HISD police and others, will be operating on a normal schedule.
The STAAR exam for fifth and eighth-grade students will be given on June 25-26, while high school students will take the test sometime during a two-week window beginning on July 8. Specific exam dates will be decided by the individual campus.
Parents who need to find out what their child needs or where they will attend must contact their child’s school for the latest information, said Efrain Olivo, the district’s director of school support services.
More information about summer school programs can be found on the district website, but Olivo stressed parents should contact their child’s school for specific information.
