First female Carnegie Vanguard student president wins leadership award

Mai Pham

Mai Pham, a 2015 graduate of Carnegie Vanguard High School (CVHS) has been awarded a scholarship from The Texas Lyceum, a program dedicated to fostering youth leadership.

In May, the Lyceum distributed $35,000 in scholarships to seven students. The winners were selected from a pool of 900 applicants from all over Texas based on their leadership, academic accomplishments, personal essays, and letters of recommendation.

Pham, the first female student body president at CVHS, did not waste a second of her high school career. She spent her time founding a group to support underserved youth in Vietnam, Botswana, and Malawi, as well as volunteering at M.D. Anderson and Memorial Hermann hospitals.

“I am very grateful to be acknowledged for what I have accomplished,” said Pham. “I want to thank the Texas Lyceum for offering this scholarship, and I know I will be a good investment for them. I plan on being an innovative leader in whatever industry I am a part of.”
