Sometimes, the best way to understand someone is to learn more about their origins.
That’s why new principal Susan Monaghan took her faculty members on a one-hour tour of the neighborhood surrounding Westbury High School on Aug. 10 to give them a glimpse of the community in which many of their students grew up.
As a part of the tour, the bus stopped by Bethel’s Place, a faith-based organization that provides food and clothing to needy individuals. The stop was designed to make teachers aware of a local resource they could share with students if the need ever arose.
“This is an opportunity not just for new teachers but for returning teachers to see where our students come from and kind of walk in their shoes,” said Monaghan.
