Spring break ideas that make learning fun

Spring break coming

Spring break is coming!

Need some spring break family entertainment? There are many things to do with your child in Houston during the week of March 14–18 that are affordable, fun, and even great learning opportunities. Here are a few events we’ve found that might be of interest:

Xtreme Spring Break at The Children’s Museum of Houston
Get a little dizzy in “human hamster balls,” watch a ninja warrior-inspired show, or take part in a shaving cream pi(e) fight on “Pi Day,” March 14 (3.14). Many other activities will also take place during the week.

Mad Science Monday at Discovery Green
Ice-carving demonstrations from the DLG Ice Factory and a host of hands-on activities courtesy of Girls Inc. Houston and Mad Science of Houston await young hands and minds on March 14.

The ice-carving demonstration starts at noon.

Theatrical Thursday at Discovery Green
Storytellers, art instruction, an introduction to opera, and a ride in the Mad Science hovercraft are among the activities children ages preschool and beyond can enjoy on Thursday, March 17.

Young Writers Workshop
Free writing workshop for kids conducted by Writers in the Schools representatives will take place on Saturdays from 10–10:30 a.m. Space is limited to 25 students, and it’s first-come, first-served, so get there early.

Spring Break 2016 at George Ranch Historical Park
Practice your cowboy skills or go farming. Churn butter, make cheese, learn to rope, and hear about “flying” cowboys. A special cowboy menu will be offered all week.

Value Wednesdays at the Rodeo
Enjoy the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo on a Wednesday for less. With a $10 Value Wednesday Rodeo/Concert Ticket, you can check out all the rodeo and concert action from an upper-level seat at NRG. You also get special pricing for parking and at various food and merchandise vendors.

Health and Wellness Week at the Health Museum
Show up for demonstrations and interactive displays that promote healthy living. Yoga, ballet workshops, puppetry and read-alouds – join the fun!

Spring Discovery Camps at the Health Museum
Enter the world of sports medicine and trade your jersey for a lab coat to explore the “ouch” in sports.

Free Museums
Many museums in the Houston Museum District are always free:
