Help determine the ‘Fan Favorite’ for HISD’s Educators of the Year banquet

HISD will honor teachers and principals at a superhero-themed ceremony on Friday, May 20. HISD’s Educators of the Year banquet, sponsored by Cigna, will reveal the district’ elementary and secondary Teachers of the Year, but back by popular demand, will also be the announcement of the “Fan Favorite.”

The districtwide elementary and secondary Teachers of the Year are determined using performance data and other criteria, but last year the Fan Favorite category was created so the HISD community could vote on social media for their favorite elementary and secondary teacher.

All campus-based Teachers of the Year are eligible for this award, which will be determined by who has the largest number of fans. Anyone can vote—including colleagues, parents, students, and former students. Voting is limited to once per day.

Visit this link to make your selection during the first round of voting through Friday, May 6, and be sure to share your favorite on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media channels to get the word out. A second round of voting will take place May 9-18 to determine the elementary and secondary winner from among the finalists.

The Fan Favorite will be announced live and on social media during the Educators of the Year banquet May 20 at the Bayou City Event Center.

If I could vote one thousand times a day I would. Ms. Melanie Davis-Sanchez, teacher at Whidby Elementary, has my vote for fan favorite. She is a former colleague of mine and a lover of children and education. She services our babies in the South Union community and continuously has nothing but positive words to say..she is EXACTLY the type of person we need in the classroom with our students. Her dedication is truly sincere and I’m honored to know her. Congrats and Good Luck Ms. Sanchez, you deserve this and our children are blessed to have you in their life!

Only the teachers who are truly passionate about teaching can make students truly passionate about learning.
Being a teacher brings many blessings.

Mrs. Moore at Nat. Q. Henderson has been an educator for over 30 years and has only taught at Nathaniel Q. Henderson. She is not only apart of the school but the community as well. I’m a parent of one of her ex students and I also had the pleasure of being under her wing during my student teaching. She has taught me a lot about life and teaching. As a result, I will soon be a 5th grade math teacher just as she is. Thanks for all that you do and you’re already my Teacher of the Year!

Diane Parris is a wonderful teacher. She was my daughters teacher last year and is Condit Elementary School’s teacher of the year this year. She makes math fun and is very responsive to parents as well as tech savvy, keeping parents and students up to date using Livingtree. She should definitely be Teacher of the Year!

    Mr. Carroll,

Has gone above and beyond for his students. He does his best to not only teach his students academically but to demonstrate good values and leadership for his students. He has a huge heart and it shows everything he does! I am honor d to have known him and I hope my student is in his class next year. Every student he has enters the room as a student but exit’s with the mind set of a future leader. He reminds them that they can do anything they set their mind too. He constantly finds ways to encourage and reward his students and is consistent and fai in how rules are implemented. Mr. Carroll is the best teacher and overall a great person! Congratulations my. Carroll!!
