Three summer meals sites closed, beginning Monday

Three curbside summer meals sites are closed effective Monday, June 8, and will remain closed until further notice.

Summer meals sites at R. P. Harris and Nathaniel Q. Henderson elementary schools are closed due to facility issues, while the site at Oates Elementary School is closed due to a confirmed case of the COVID-19 virus. The case is not related to HISD Nutrition Services or its curbside summer meals program, but it does impact the availability of the site.

The temporary closure will allow for the facility issues to be resolved at R. P. Harris and Nathaniel Q. Henderson and for deep cleaning and sanitization to be completed at Oates. At Oates, impacted employees have been notified and instructed self-quarantine in accordance with public health guidelines.

Additionally, Bastian, Foster, Shearn, Thompson, and Whidby elementary schools remain closed for deep cleaning and sanitization due to a confirmed case of the COVID-19 virus, as announced last week. Those five sites are expected to reopen on Thursday, June 18.

All other scheduled summer meals sites are open.

During the temporary closures, families in need are encouraged to visit one of the district’s 63 other curbside summer meals sites. A complete list is available at HoustonISD.org/SummerMeals.

Families also can go to HoustonFoodBank.org for a list of the 250 open partner sites and other COVID-19 resources available across greater Houston.
