Community food distributions planned to help with winter storm recovery

The Houston Independent School District is partnering with Houston Food Bank to host community food distributions over the next three days to ensure Houston families have access to food as they recover from the winter storm.

The community distributions will be held it three different locations over the next three days — Barnett Stadium on Saturday, NRG on Sunday, and Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center on Monday.

Family food boxes from the Houston Food Bank will be available to all. Student meals will not be available.

Community Distributions

  • Saturday, Feb. 20, 2 to 5 p.m. —Barnett Stadium, 6800 Fairway Drive
  • Sunday, Feb. 21, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. — NRG Stadium
  • Monday, Feb. 22, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center, 4400 W. 18th St.

Nutrition Services halted operations earlier this week due to inclement weather. With power restored, the department is now inspecting campus kitchens, discarding spoiled food, replenishing supplies, and preparing for student meal distribution, which will resume next week.

Apartment complex distribution will resume at designated locations on Monday, Feb. 22. Neighborhood Supersites will resume twice a week as scheduled, beginning Wednesday, Feb. 24. Campus curbside pickup for student meals will resume on Thursday, Feb. 25.

An up-to-date list of regularly scheduled food distribution sites and times can be found online at  HoustonISD.org/StudentMeals. Families are encouraged to check the website to confirm the site is open before arriving.
