HISD launches CORE to SPED Bridge Program

The Office of Special Education and the Teacher Recruitment Team in HISD have collaborated to create the CORE to SPED Bridge Program.  This program is designed to empower current HISD teachers to help close the gap in Special Education.

Approximately 8 percent of HISD students are enrolled in Special Education (SPED) services, yet teacher vacancies within SPED represent 35 percent of district teacher openings.

HISD teachers will have the opportunity to apply to the program and participate in professional development that will prepare them to take the EC-12 Special Education Certification Exam, as well as to transition into a SPED role for at least two years beginning with the 2022-2023 school year.  The certification exam registration fee will be covered by the program and teachers who are accepted to and complete the CORE to SPED Bridge Program will receive an incentive of $3,000.

For those HISD teachers interested in learning more about the Core to SPED Bridge Program, the Office of Special Education and the Teacher Recruitment Team will be hosting a virtual information session on Oct.26 at 5:00 p.m  Please click on the link below to access our flyer and links to the information session and program application.
