Superintendent Millard House II along with HISD community partner Group 1 Automotive selected LaChante Guidry from Attucks Middle School as April’s Teacher of the Month.
“It’s teachers like her that really move our kids in the direction of understanding what love is and what academic performance is,” said House. “I was excited to know that she knew that this was a calling on her life going several years back and that she’s executed on that calling to ensure that her students get exactly what they need to be successful.”
Not only has Guidry been an educator in HISD for 21 years, she is a product of HISD schools. Today, she teaches sixth-grade math in the Sunnyside community she grew up in—something she knew she wanted to do at just 10 years old.
“To come back as a teacher is fulfilling,” said Guidry. “I see the young adults in [the children], and so I know one day they will be a productive citizen and I will at least say that I gave a small contribution to their success.”
Guidry’s immense impact can be seen in her students.
“She puts our education first to make sure we are ready for 7th grade,” said student Kelvin Patton.
