HISD’s Wraparound Services Department is gearing up to assist more than 100 Houston families for the Thanksgiving holiday.
In partnership with Houston community organizations, the department is hosting turkey giveaways, raffles, food drives, and more at several HISD campuses.
“We know that during the holiday season, we have a lot of our families that might be experiencing some challenges,” said Dr. Candice Castillo, Executive Officer of Student Support Services. “We want them to know that we have a lot of different events and partnerships going on to support their needs.”
HISD community partners Harris County Precinct 2 and UnitedHealth Group will host the Access2Health Festival on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. They’ll donate 500 turkeys and provide the Northside High School community with additional resources from the Houston Food Bank.
HISD community partner Adopt an Angel will also be providing 40 Thanksgiving dinners to families at Henderson Elementary School.
In addition to turkey giveaways and food drives, Wraparound Services will be hosting fall festival celebrations at Condit Elementary School and Garden Villas Elementary School.
Operation Turkey has even offered to deliver meals to Houston families who complete a meal request form.
“It is important for us that we support the whole child,” said Castillo. “We want to make sure we support their well-being, so our students are successful academically.”
