HISD partners with Houston Dynamo and PNC Bank to upgrade Early Childhood Center libraries

Houston Independent School District is excited to announce a new partnership with PNC Bank and Houston Dynamo Football Club aimed at improving Early Childhood Center libraries and access to literacy throughout the district.

The Dynamo and PNC are investing nearly $130,000 in support of early childhood education initiatives which align with HISD’s five-year strategic plan to promote academic success. Several campus libraries will receive upgrades including beautification projects, books in multiple languages, new furniture, reading kits, and new technology.

“We are excited to continue our investments in early childhood literacy programs by establishing vital partnerships with community pillars like PNC Bank and the Houston Dynamo,” said Superintendent Millard House II. “This is the first year HISD is requiring a librarian at every campus as a part of our five-year strategic plan to promote strong educational achievements, academic success and an overall better educational experience.”

The program aims to maximize literacy in early childhood and create enrichment opportunities that some students in the HISD community might not have access to otherwise. In addition to the physical upgrades, part of the investment will go towards librarian training, scholarships, and programming events in service of that goal.

Students will also have access to PNC Bank’s Grow Up Great® workshops where they can develop financial literacy and prepare for real-world financial situations. The campus libraries chosen for upgrades will be announced during a ribbon-cutting celebration at Bellfort Early Childhood Center on Dec. 13 at 1 p.m.
