As the largest school district in Texas with an incredibly diverse student body, Houston Independent School District is expanding language accessibility for its families.
For the first time in district history, HISD now has a dedicated Spanish livestream, which will allow viewers to see board meetings and a variety of district-related content. Just go to www.HoustonISD.org/livetv and click “Live” or “En vivo” to watch.
For registered speakers and those in attendance at board meetings, the district will provide simultaneous Spanish and American Sign Language interpreters.
“It is our hope that these new resources will help bridge a communication gap for our families, build trust, and cultivate community engagement with the work being done at the district level,” said Chief Engagement Officer Max Moll.
With more than 60% of HISD’s population identifying as Hispanic, the district aims to give more families the opportunity to engage in a way that empowers them to be advocates for their students’ educational journeys.
