Sterling HS and Kashmere HS track and field teams get new gear ahead of spring season

With the 2022-2023 track and field season swiftly approaching, Sterling High School and Kashmere High School student-athletes couldn’t be more ready, thanks to a new partnership.

Howdy Homemade Ice Cream teamed up with Walk in Their Shoes (WITS) to surprise the Sterling High School girls track and field team with new athletic gear.

“This is awesome,” said Head Coach Gary Jessie. “One of the biggest barriers we have is budgeting and fundraising, so this is one less thing for them to worry about so they can focus on winning.”

The Kashmere High School boys and girls track and field teams also received new track spikes, athletic wear, and more to help gear up for the season.

“The love displayed by Howdy Homemade Ice Cream and WITS means so much to our students,” said Head Coach Roderick Boyd. “The students were so pleased and grateful for the generosity and the blessing that was bestowed.”

After realizing they were receiving new equipment, the teams celebrated together and expressed their appreciation for Howdy Homemade Ice Cream and WITS.

“It feels really good because we have accomplished a lot,” said Sterling High School senior Nya Davis. “We have a lot of things coming up so to know that we have not been forgotten about feels excellent. We’re going to stride this year!”

Located in Katy, Texas, Howdy Homemade Ice Cream is committed to providing job opportunities to youth with special needs and giving back to the community.

WITS is a nonprofit organization based out of Lubbock, Texas, whose mission is to empower children with improved confidence through new clothing and athletic gear.

“WITS donated over half a million dollars’ worth of Under Armor gear to us, so I just wanted to give back to schools that are overlooked sometimes,” said Howdy Homemade Ice Cream Owner Rodrick Batson. “I think it’s cool once they see they haven’t been forgotten about and that it’s people they don’t even know that cares about them. It could inspire one to do the same thing later in life.”
