HISD now accepting applications for paid student tutor program

Houston Independent School District is continuing its successful tutoring partnership with iEducate, and all HISD students and alumni ages 15 through college are invited to apply for this paid opportunity.

The HISD Tutor Corps seeks to boost academic growth at the elementary level while also preparing aspiring educators for future careers.

Participants will gain mentorship and leadership experience in the classroom, test-drive careers, and receive direct classroom experience. Students selected for the program will be paired with certified teachers to aid with co-teaching and provide instructional support.

“This continued partnership with iEducate is an exciting opportunity for us to provide invaluable support to our elementary scholars while cultivating a talented pool of future teachers,” said Joseph Williams, HISD Executive Director of Performance, Innovation, & Equity. “This initiative underscores our commitment to empowering students and investing in their unlimited potential.”

The HISD Tutor Corps builds on the success of its multi-year partnership with iEducate and its transformative impact on scholars and schools. During the 2022-2023 school year, 266 tutors were engaged to serve 27,000+ elementary students across 67 elementary schools.

“We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with HISD, accelerating student learning and creating pathways for graduates to become teachers within their home district,” said Alexis Elafros, Director of Partnerships at iEducate. “This opportunity not only offers students a chance to earn while engaged in meaningful work, but it also opens doors to personal growth and a potential future in education.”

Beginning in September 2023, tutors will work in person with pay of at least $15 per hour. Flexible tutoring shifts will be available throughout the week to accommodate diverse schedules.
