The HISD Board of Education last week approved a $1.74 billion budget that includes nearly $30 million that will go directly to teacher salaries. As a result, HISD is adopting a new salary schedule that will benefit all teachers. Under the new schedule, every current teacher, and those teachers hired by July 1, 2014, will see a minimum gain of $1,100.
Although the new salary schedule moves away from additional compensation for advanced degrees, current teachers with master’s and doctorate degrees will maintain their current salary, along with a $1,100 increase. The same is true for any new employee with an advanced degree who joins Team HISD by July 1, 2014. In addition, HISD will honor the master’s and doctoral degree salaries for current teachers, or new teachers hired by July 1, who are pursuing advanced degrees and who will earn that degree by August 2014.
Current teachers can determine their salary for the 2014-2015 school year by taking their years of teaching experience and applying them to the 2014-2015 Teacher Salary Schedule listed here.

I’am pleased that my fellow co-workers will recieve additional monies for the hard work being asked of them. However, I would like to know how much, if any, will teacher assistants recieve. We work side by side with the teachers to ensure all students are educated on levels best suited for them. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks in advance for the information.

That is great for teachers, however I think assistants deserve some sort of compensation as well. They work just as hard if not harder. I was an assistant for 26 years and I felt I desreved more pay. I went back to school to recieve my bachelors and my masters, I am now an employment rep and I still think they do not make much either. I hope someone listens to the needs of the assistants
Please remember the General Clerks I, II and III and the school secretaries. We are truly the backbone of our schools also. We definitely need and would like an increase in our salaries. Thanks in advance

It’s very sad that HISD is choosing to not continue to compensate for a masters degree. It is principal only, as the salary increase is minimal. It sends the message that higher education is not valued in hisd. It creates a culture of disrespect for higher education and teachers.
Does this apply to Teacher Assistants who tutor students?
