Raising teacher and staff salaries in HISD is a top commitment within the district’s five-year strategic plan. In order to meet that commitment, Superintendent Millard House II announced an update to the compensation plan that will make all HISD salaries among the most competitive in the region.
During a news conference on Thursday, May 26, House revealed current teachers on average will receive an 11% raise this summer.
Raising teacher salaries in HISD is a top commitment within the district’s new, five-year strategic plan. In February, HISD announced a compensation plan with cost-of-living updates and step increases for the next three years. HISD is raising teacher salaries by 17% between now and 2024.
The HISD Board of Education last week approved a $1.74 billion budget that includes nearly $30 million that will go directly to teacher salaries. As a result, HISD is adopting a new salary schedule that will benefit all teachers.
