Last month, we shared the news that two HISD graduates had earned perfect scores on an Advanced Placement test in macroeconomics. Now, here comes Janett Ordoñez, a student at the DeBakey High School for Health Professions, who was one of just 91 students worldwide to earn every point possible on her Advanced Placement (AP) Spanish Language and Culture exam. It is very rare for a student to earn a perfect score on any AP exam.

According to Laurie Leon, Ordoñez’s AP Spanish teacher, “Janett is the kind of student who immediately applies what she learns. She consistently focuses on demonstrating excellence in every assignment. She has two of the most important qualities required to succeed: discipline and eagerness to learn.”
“AP courses and exams are college-level and require hard work and focus on the part of students and their teachers,” added Trevor Packer, senior vice president of instruction at the College Board. “We congratulate the students … who make challenging coursework and focused practice a priority.”
To get an idea of how rare a perfect score is, consider the fact that out of approximately four million AP exams taken by one-and-a-half million U.S. high school juniors and seniors in 2014, only 285 students earned a perfect score.
