Yates High School held an Elective Fair and Signing Day event on April 29 for Houston-area eighth-graders to see all that the school has to offer. Yates has two magnet programs—communications and maritime—and a Career & Technical Education program in health sciences.

The day started off with the arrival of eighth-graders from Cullen Middle School, which feeds into Yates. They were greeted by the Yates band and dance team, then heard presentations about the new school building and information about possible graduation paths. Afterwards, students took a tour of the building and went through the Elective Fair in the cafeteria, where every school organization, club and athletic group had a table or booth on display.
Eighth-graders from outside the Yates attendance zone who have chosen to attend Yates this fall as magnet students also got to meet their teachers, see the clubs, register for fall classes, and complete endorsement forms for graduation.
Love seeing schools getting kids excited about the next step.
