North Forest Early Childhood Center is moving toward completion at a rapid pace, with steel framing complete and mechanical and electrical system installation underway.

The new $23.1 million campus on Seneca Street, currently known as Fonwood Early Childhood Center, will accommodate 500 to 600 students to help relieve the need for a new early childhood educational center in northeast Houston. The school will develop the skills that young children need for a successful start in elementary school.

The pre-K and kindergarten school will feature 27 classrooms, including two special education centers and specialized visual arts and science labs. The school also will incorporate vibrant interior colors with plenty of natural light and will feature three outdoor play areas and an outdoor learning center.
The facility, which is funded with state monies, has a target completion of summer 2016 and is set to open for students during the 2016-2017 school year.
