Local business owners were challenged to shift their mindset to achieve their highest potential and reach their goals during Workshop Wednesday, a monthly seminar for minority and women-owned business owners hosted by HISD’s Supplier Diversity Department.

The presentation was titled “Unstuck! Mindset Reset to Achieve ______.” and led by ActionCOACH South Houston President and CEO Ted Hair. The two-hour seminar explained how a mindset is formed, how it reflects everyday outcomes, and how it could potentially deter or encourage a successful business.

“Understand that a mindset can affect everything that is said and done,” Hair said at the workshop, which was held at Kashmere High School. “if we can change our mindset, we can change everything around us.”

Hair explained that when a small business owner experiences a mindset reset, it helps them push aside all the clutter and increase productivity, boost confidence, drive sales, and reach dreams and goals that they believed impossible.

“Everything that you see, read, and hear goes in to forming your mindset, even if you don’t realize it,” Hair said. “These go into your subconscious, which become part of your own self-bank. Be careful about what you are feeding your mindset.”

When someone becomes aware of their mindset, they can reframe what and how they think, what they say, and even how they behave, Hair said.

“Change your mindset to frame your days,” Hair said. “Be careful with how you talk about yourself, what you say to yourself and about yourself when you are by yourself, and what you say about yourself to others, and what you allow in.”

HISD’s Business Solutions Supplier Diversity Department hosts workshops for minority and women-owned business enterprise every first Wednesday for the month at different HISD campuses with different topics aiming to help small business owners succeed.
