Representatives of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) will educate parents, coaches, academic counselors, and registrars on the eligibility requirements for student-athletes who hope to play college sports.
“Parents will learn about academic eligibility requirements for Divisions I, II, and III sports,” said HISD Athletics Director Andre’ Walker. “It’s important to know what courses a student must take to qualify for athletic scholarships.”
Glenn Terry, NCAA Director of Outreach and Strategic Partnerships, understands all sides of the eligibility process and will provide insight during a conference hosted by the HISD Athletics Department. It is open to HISD parents and school district employees at no cost.
“Understanding the academic requirements is key to helping high school student-athletes achieve their dreams to play in college,” Terry said.
According to the NCAA, there are more than 500,000 student-athletes and fewer than 2% will turn professional.
Two conferences will be held at Delmar Fieldhouse, 2020 Mangum Road, 77092.
Training for parents will be held on Wednesday, June 1, at 6 p.m. Training for coaches and counselors will be held on Thursday, June 2, at 5:30 p.m.
Registration is not required to attend.
