HISD elementary students have the chance to avoid the “summer slide” and instead Slide into Summer Reading with the Astros.

The Houston Astros Foundation and Reliant Energy are teaming up to encourage young learners throughout the Houston area to read over the summer months.

The top 3,000 “Reliant Readers” will get tickets to a home Astros game in August. The school that registers the most readers by May 19 will win a Slide into Summer party with Orbit from the Astros, Hugo from Reliant, the Shooting Stars and Shuttle Crew, as well as books, backpacks, and prizes for each student.
