Project Advisory Teams for Bellaire and Lamar high schools focused on the best ways to organize spaces in new facilities while sharing input with architects designing 21st century learning environment for both campuses.

Parker Elementary community gets first look at plans for new school

During a community meeting on Tuesday night, Parker Elementary shared plans about how its 55-year-old school will be replaced with a new two-story facility, complete with green spaces on two sides and musical performance hall.

A building concept with a courtroom and law library in the center of the new High School for Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice set the premise for a site plan for the new school developed by students, staff and community members at a design charrette Wednesday and Thursday.

Green schools shaping good stewards of environment

Berry Elementary School second-graders took out their green plastic knifes and chopped red peppers, cucumbers, cilantro and carrots before tossing the ingredients into a mixing bowl.

“This is fun,” said student Amairanny Macias as she smelled the ingredients for the herb quinoa and bean salad the students were making from ingredients from the school’s vegetable garden. “We’re going to mix the cheese in next.”

Rusk debuts new building wing for middle schoolers

Cheerful student ambassadors at The Rusk School met alumni, parents and community partners at the front entrance of their school to welcome them to a celebration for the opening of a new building wing.

Video shows progress on additions that will modernize Worthing HS

HISD released a new video that shows progress on the planning and design of a new two-story building addition at Worthing High School.

Worthing will receive a building addition under HISD’s 2007 bond program and a new building that will be funded by the district’s 2012 $1.89 billion bond program. The facility will house academics, performance arts, athletics, and other departments.

Design for new HSPVA becomes ‘more exciting and a little more real’

Architects presented design renderings and 3D images of the new High School for Performing and Visual Arts Thursday at a community meeting that provided a more detailed site plan of the five-story facility.

Parker ES students present their wish list for new school

Don’t paint the girls bathroom walls pink was one of many requests from a small group of Parker Elementary School students who wrote a list of 26 must-haves for the design of the new campus.

The students presented the list Wednesday to the school’s architect, sharing ideas for solar panels, automatic sinks, open windows, larger classrooms and music rooms, an updated library with reading zones for different grade levels, and individual spaces for the gym, cafeteria and auditorium.

Berry ES wins ‘Development of Distinction’ award from Urban Land Institute

Berry Elementary School’s eco-friendly and inviting building design received a real estate development award Tuesday from the Houston District Council of the Urban Land Institute.

The school won a 2014 Development of Distinction Award, which recognizes Houston area building projects that exemplify best practices in design, construction, economic viability and community health. The school was one of two finalists for the award in the nonprofit category. Continue reading
