Board of Education Approves Motion to Fast-Track New Delmar-Tusa Fieldhouse

Existing facility to be demolished while design for new facility is underway

The HISD Board of Education unanimously approved during Thursday’s monthly meeting the motion to fast-track the construction of a new Delmar-Tusa Fieldhouse by demolishing the existing facility while design for the new facility is underway. The goal is to have the site ready for construction as soon as possible and complete the replacement facility by late 2016.

HISD Elementary Schools Compete in 3rd Annual Paula Harris Basketball Classic at Cullen Middle School

Basketball teams from 12 HISD elementary schools will compete in the final round of the 2013 Paula Harris Basketball Classic.  This is the third year HISD Board of Education Trustee Paula Harris has hosted the event which encourages student participation and parent and community involvement for schools in the Cullen Middle School community. At the conclusion of the tournament there will be an awards ceremony. The event will also showcase various HISD bands, cheerleaders, and dance and step teams.

HISD High School Athletes Commit to Colleges and Universities on National Signing Day

More than 80 HISD student athletes will sign letters of intent for colleges and universities throughout the United States on National Signing Day.  The male and female student athletes are being offered athletic scholarships for football, basketball, baseball, track and field, swimming, softball, volleyball, wrestling, tennis, and golf.  National Signing Day is the first day when students can sign a letter of intent to play sports for colleges and universities of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Get Your Tickets Now to Lamar’s Semifinal Playoff Game

The Lamar High School football team will be competing in the Class 5A Division I State Semifinal matchup against San Antonio O’Connor on Saturday, Dec. 15, at Austin ISD’s Tony Burger Stadium (3200 Jones Road, 78745). The game will determine whether HISD will reach a state championship game — a feat that hasn’t been accomplished since Yates High School did in 1992.

The semifinal game kicks off at 3 p.m. Tickets are available in advance today until 4 p.m. at Lamar High School ( $5 for students and $10 for adults). All tickets purchased at the gate will be $13.

Lamar High School cruised to a 28-7 victory over North Shore last Saturday in the regional championship game, marking the first time an HISD team has advanced to the 5A semifinals since Madison High School did so in 2001, led by Vince Young at quarterback.

The Redskins are led by Coach Tom Nolen, who was named Houston Coach of the Year by the Houston Touchdown Club on Wednesday night. Earlier this season, Nolen earned his 250th career victory.

Lamar High School to Celebrate Football Team’s Advancement to the Semifinals

Facing San Antonio O’Connor to represent Houston area in 5A Division I Finals

What:   Lamar High School is hosting another campus-wide pep rally to celebrate the football team advancing to the 5A Division I semifinals and continuing their undefeated streak.  The football team will be facing San Antonio O’Connor on Saturday at 3p.m. at the Burger Stadium in Austin.  The winning team will be advancing to the 5A Division I finals.  The last time Lamar made it this far was in 1953, the year they also won the state championship.

Team’s playoff run continues Saturday with state semifinals matchup

Longtime Lamar High School football Coach Tom Nolen was named the Houston Touchdown Club’s coach of the year Wednesday night, making him the second HISD coach to earn the prestigious honor in the award’s 25-year history.

HISD Athletic Director Recognized as Region’s 2012 Athletic Director of the Year

HISD’s Athletic Director Marmion Dambrino has been selected as the region’s 2012 Athletic Director of the Year by the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association.

“To be selected from a group of peers who are truly talented, exemplary and committed to their school districts, student athletes, and coaches is truly an honor,” said HISD Athletic Director Marmion Dambrino.  “I am humbled to have the opportunity to represent our region in the upcoming THSADA convention.”
