HISD, UST Offering Master’s in Special Education Leadership

Those interested can attend informational session on May 15

HISD is expanding its current partnership with the University of St. Thomas to offer a Master’s of Education in Special Education Leadership through a grant program. The district already collaborates with UST to offer a Master’s in Business Administration program for aspiring principals. Like its predecessor, this special education master’s degree features greatly reduced tuition, principal certification and participation in a cohort group that will remain with each other throughout the program. HISD and UST to Launch Second Master’s Degree Program

Classes start on August 26, 2013, for the second cohort of the University of Saint Thomas (UST) Master’s Degree Program, an innovative partnership between HISD and UST geared towards producing entrepreneurial and innovative school leaders.

Graduates of this two-and-a-half-year program will have the business, education, and management skills needed to lead successful urban schools—as well as to obtain principal certification.

$1.25M Grant Awarded for University of St. Thomas and HISD Special Education Partnership

A $1.25M grant recently was awarded to the University of St. Thomas for their Preparation of Special Education Leaders program, a partnership with the Houston Independent School District that over a 5-year grant period will award 80 Master of Education degrees with emphasis on Special Education leadership. Currently, 7.8 percent of the HISD school population receives special education services. Continue reading
