2,000 HISD students to compete in Special Olympics field days

Nearly 2,000 Houston ISD students will gather at Barnett Stadium, 6800 Fairway Dr., next week to participate in field days hosted by the district and Special Olympics Texas.

The events are for students who have intellectual disabilities. This is the second year the field days have been held. More than 1,300 students participated last year.

Middle school students will participate on Wednesday, April 30, elementary students will take the field on Thursday, May 1 and high school students will compete on Friday, May 2. The events are open to the public and will be held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. daily.

Students will compete in the following events:

• track (100-meter dash or 25-meter dash for students in wheelchairs)
• softball/ball throw
• flag football drill
• soccer kicking drill
• basketball drill
• tennis drill
