Celebrate the positive impact nurses have on school communities

National School Nurse Day on May 10 celebrates the vital role school nurses play in the health and well-being of students. They promote a healthy learning environment, connect families to health resources, and educate communities about immunizations, nutrition, health screenings, and disease prevention.

Schools and the community are encouraged to thank their nurses in person and on social media using #SND2017 and #HISD.

School nurses use their assessment skills and judgment to meet diverse health care needs every day, for students with both acute and chronic health issues. They instill positive health behaviors in students and provide a vital bridge connecting students and families to medical and social services in their communities.

On the front lines of health care, school nurses help keep parents at work by implementing effective care at school and promoting a healthy school environment. They also identify the social factors in a community that can impact the health of students and their families.

Take time Wednesday to thank school nurses for making the health of HISD students their top priority.
