The team at Delmar Stadium has been hard at work in the pre-season to get the facility in shape for fall football. Over the summer, the synthetic turf on the football field was replaced, much of the facility received new paint, and restrooms were renovated – including the installation of air conditioning and new stalls – making the stadium ready to host plenty of Friday night lights action this fall. Summer break was no vacation for HISD’s bond project team, as schools in the district’s $1.89 billion program made significant headway, with more construction activity in progress than at any other time in the district’s history.
South Early College HS, Mandarin Chinese building projects go vertical
The new campuses for South Early College High School and Mandarin Chinese Language Immersion Magnet School have reached a major milestone in the construction of both buildings as work crews have begun erecting steel columns and beams, taking the projects into the vertical phase of construction.

YWCPA stakeholders briefed on initial design plans for renovated school
One of HISD’s oldest school buildings is undergoing a $27.1 million makeover that will preserve its historic past while integrating modern learning spaces designed to prepare students for the future.
“This is a magnificent building,” said Architect Carolina Weitzman during a community meeting Tuesday at the Young Women’s College Preparatory Academy, located at 1906 Cleburne. “It’s got great bones.”

Attendees at August’s Workshop Wednesday, sponsored by HISD’s Business Assistance Department, learned that there is often a financial cost to a bad hire and that hiring decisions – good or bad – can have a huge impact on a company’s bottom line.
Austin HS stakeholders learn about design plans for new school
Members of the Austin High School community came out this week for the first of three community meetings to hear about plans for the school’s new campus. As part of HISD’s current bond program, Austin will receive a new $68.4 million building that will accommodate 1,800 to 2,000 students.
