Garden Oaks Montessori community hears about renovation and expansion plans

More than 70 members of the Garden Oaks neighborhood came out to learn about initial design concepts for Garden Oaks Montessori. The meeting on Tuesday was the first of at least three community meetings that will be held at various phases of the project.

As part of HISD’s current bond program, the school will receive new additions and general renovations to accommodate up to 900 students in pre-K through 8th grade.

Project Advisory Teams for Madison and Jordan high schools participated in a two-day workshop last week to put together initial design concepts for the schools’ new 21st century campuses.The design workshop, known as a charrette, marks the threshold from the planning to design phase of the two building projects.

Bond construction milestone: First wall goes up on new Sterling HS

A large crane arrived at the Sterling High School construction site this week, and on Wednesday it lifted and placed the first three-story, concrete tilt wall panel.

Members of the Project Advisory Team and a handful of Sterling students were on site to celebrate the milestone and add their signatures to the wall before it was lifted.

Texas Connections Academy giving athletes the ‘flexibility’ needed to compete

The Texas Connections Academy has been providing students from across the state with the ability to obtain their high-school diplomas online since 2008. Many pupils are attracted by the flexibility of the program, which allows them to accommodate unconventional work schedules, challenging family obligations, or other responsibilities that make traditional programs unfeasible.
