Safety Expo puts HISD bus drivers to the test with hands-on drills

HISD Transportation Services kicked off the 2014-2015 school year on Friday with its annual back-to-school Safety Expo training program – challenging more than 1,200 bus drivers and attendants to commit to student safety.

Transportation: What you need to know for the upcoming school year

With the first day of school quickly approaching, HISD Transportation is ready for a safe and smooth start to the school year.

Before school starts, the department says all parents should receive a postcard in the mail and at least two telephone calls with their children’s bus route information.

A customer call center has also been set up to answer questions. Parents can call 713-613-3040 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. starting Monday, Aug. 18, for assistance with transportation-related issues. The call center will remain open for at least 30 days.

HISD Transportation strengthens safety commitment through training programs

The HISD Transportation department renewed its commitment to student safety recently by recertifying their training and staff development team through a comprehensive training program offered by the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI). The training program focuses on prevention strategies and helps build confidence in team members to handle challenging situations.

HISD Transportation to host job fair this weekend

The Houston Independent School District will be hosting a transportation job fair on Saturday, June 28. The fair will take place at the Northwest Transportation Facility (6351 Pinemont Drive, 77092) from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

HISD will be conducting in-person interviews for the following positions:

  • School Bus Drivers ($15.40/hourly)
  • Transportation Attendants ($9.76/hourly)

HISD recognized for going ‘Above and Beyond’ for military personnel

Board of EducationThe Houston Independent School District recently was honored for its outstanding service and dedication in supporting military personnel working for the district.

The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve organization (ESGR), a U.S. Department of Defense office, presented the district with its “Above and Beyond Award” at the June 12 regular Board meeting.

HISD Transportation receives community service award for recruiting efforts

Houston Independent School District’s Transportation department recently received a community service award for its recruiting efforts from the Near Northwest Management District. HISD school bus drivers Perry Johnson and Charles Brodie were recipients of the award on behalf of the department.

The Near Northwest Management District was created by the state of Texas in 2001 to address concerns about economic development in the northwest area of Houston. The HISD Transportation department partners with the agency to recruit bus drivers living in the area that the Near Northwest Management District serves. Continue reading
