Dr. Shelby Smith has been selected as the new principal of Harvard Elementary School.

Smith began her teaching career in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD where she taught Kindergarten, second grade, and fourth grade. She also has experience as a fourth and fifth grade teacher in Pearland ISD.

Smith has proudly served HISD as a Literacy Teacher Development Specialist, Assistant Principal at Port Houston Elementary, and Dean of Instruction at Welch Middle School. During her tenure as an assistant principal, she focused on improving the campus culture and increasing student achievement through implementing school-wide academic programs, such as the Minitropolis Financial Literacy Program with IBC Bank.

Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas State University, a master’s degree in Educational Administration from Houston Baptist University, and a doctorate in Ethical Leadership from the University of St. Thomas. Additionally, Dr. Smith received an Executive Education certification from the Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University.
