HISD Student Support Services gets festive with holiday giving events for Houston families

HISD’s Student Support Services Department is dedicated to connecting students and their families with non-instructional community resources. Students face many obstacles during the school year, and for many families, no time of year is as challenging as the holiday season. The various departments under Student Support services have organized a series of events and worked with community partners to aid students and their families this December.

With more than 400 holiday events including toy drives, food distributions, and holiday parties, WRS Student Support Services teams aim to bring some cheer and much-needed relief to HISD families.

As the giving season ramps up, Student Support Services teams are hosting several Holiday events including the December to Remember Food and Toy Drive at Baker Montessori School on Dec. 16, 2022, between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

On Dec. 21, Wraparound Services is partnering with Texas Center for Human Advancement to give away food at Park Place Elementary School. Teams will be distributing food from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

In addition to one-time drives and events, there will also be Operation Warm to distribute winter coats throughout the month of December and is working with HISD PD’s C.O.R.E team for Christmas Story Time and stuffed animal giveaways all season long.

Community and interdepartmental partnerships make it possible for the Student Support Services Department to assist the HISD student body this holiday season. With the assistance of organizations like the Houston Ballet, the YMCA, Frost Bank, and many others, including many HISD staff, the department continues to support the well-being of our students and their families all year long.

You can learn more about how to request resources and services utilizing the Student Assistance Form (SAF) available here.
