HISD Transportation to host job fairs for 2018-19 bus drivers

The Houston Independent School District’s Transportation Services department is hosting four job fairs across the city to recruit and hire bus drivers to staff routes for the 2018-2019 school year.

The job fairs will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on four Saturdays in May and June:

  • May 12, 2018, Scarborough High School, 4141 Costa Rica Road
  • May 19, 2018, Hexser T. Holliday Food Services Support Center, 6801 Bennington St.
  • June 2, 2018, Westbury High School, 11911 Chimney Rock Road
  • June 9, 2018, Gregg Elementary School, 6701 Roxbury Road

HISD interim superintendent, chief operating officer meet with transportation employees

Houston Independent School District Interim Superintendent Grenita Lathan met with all HISD bus drivers and transportation staff on Friday to deliver a simple message of support: “I hear you.”

Lathan called the meeting so she could directly address employees and reinforce the important role they play in the success of students across the district.

“You truly are the first contact every child in this district has each day on his way to school,” Lathan said. “People think it’s just about the principals and teachers, but it’s about our bus drivers, our food service workers, our custodians. You are essential.”

The meeting marked the first time Lathan has met with the entire Transportation Services department. She was joined by HISD Chief Operating Officer Brian Busby and Transportation Services General Manager Timothy Brown. Continue reading

Principals thank HISD bus drivers, attendants for their hard work

Before bus drivers and bus attendants set off to transport HISD students to and from school for the first week of classes, HISD Transportation managers and a group of principals showed their gratitude and appreciation for employees during a welcome back program at Key Middle School on Friday.

HISD Transportation Makes ‘100 Best Fleets’ List for Third Consecutive Year

Government Fleet, a leading transportation industry magazine, has announced the top 100 fleets for 2013 and HISD is once again the only school district in the country to earn a spot on the list (not including Honorable Mentions).

2013 will mark the third consecutive year for HISD’s Transportation Services department to be on the list. In 2011, it ranked 57th in the nation among the best fleets in North America, and last year, it moved up five spots to number 52. This year, HISD broke into the top half of the list, with a ranking of number 47.

HISD’s Transportation Services Takes 2013 Top Fleet Sustainability Award

Awarded by nation’s leading fleet management association

The National Association of Fleet Administrators awarded the Houston Independent School District its Excellence in Public Fleet Sustainability award for 2013. 

“This award is a great recognition of the drive and determination of the entire transportation team, from the bus drivers who monitor engine idling, to the shop team members who reduce their waste stream,” HISD Transportation General Manager Nathan Graf said.  “Everyone in the department played an essential role in this award.”
