North Forest Families Urged to Complete Application for HISD’s Free and Reduced Price Meals Program

Application available online and at all HISD campuses for 2013-2014 academic year

The Houston Independent School District urges all North Forest families to complete an application with HISD’s Food Services Department as soon as possible in order for their children to qualify for free or reduced price meals during the 2013-2014 school year.

“Many of our families may not realize they need to apply each year for meal benefits,” HISD Food Services Senior Manager Brian Giles said. “It‘s important that they submit the application in order to qualify so their children can start the first day of school with healthy meals.”

North Forest families received meals last year under the USDA’s Provision II policy which only required application completion every four years. This year that policy no longer is in effect, and all families must re-apply each year.  The student lunch price for the 2013-2014 school year is $2.25.

Free and reduced-price meal applications can be completed online at www.mealapps.houstonisd.org or in person at all HISD campuses. All North Forest community households will also receive a hard copy of the application by mail during the first two weeks of August. In addition, representatives from HISD’s Food Services Department will be at campus registration events helping parents complete their applications.

Only one application is required per household. Parents will need their children’s HISD student identification number, if available, and the household’s monthly income. North Forest households can still apply even if they do not have an assigned student ID number.
