Seven-venue event combines hoops with holiday giving
The Houston area’s best girls basketball players will face off at seven HISD venues December 5-7 in the 30th annual Houston ISD Basketball Tournament – combining action on the courts with a giant food and toy drive, in the spirit of the holiday season.
Attendees can waive the $4 general admission charge at games at the Butler, Barnett and Pavilion fieldhouses by bringing two non-perishable food items plus one unwrapped toy. The food donations will go to the Houston Food Bank, and toys will be given to the U.S. Marines Toys for Tots drive.
Chavez, Lamar, North Forest, Reagan, Waltrip and Westside high schools will also host games. A tournament pass is available for $10.
HISD high schools participating are Austin, Chavez, Davis, Furr, Sam Houston, Jones, Kashmere, Lamar, Lee, Madison, Milby, Reagan, Scarborough, Sharpstown, Sterling, Waltrip, Washington, Westside, Wheatley, Worthing, and Yates.
Competing from outside HISD will be Baytown Lee in the Goose Creek ISD, Cy Lakes, Cy-Fair ISD; Spring Woods and North Brook, Spring Branch ISD; Willowridge, Fort Bend ISD; and private schools Kinkaid and St. Pius.
