Attendees will have the chance to weigh in on the design development The Houston Independent School District is hosting another series of community meetings for the first 17 schools slated for construction in the 2012 bond program to give participants a chance to review designs and site plans.
The Bond Oversight Committee held its fourth quarter meeting on Friday and heard a detailed review of the past year for both the 2012 and 2007 bond programs, which continue to progress on budget and on schedule. The meeting was rescheduled from Jan. 28, when inclement weather forced the district to close for the day.
HISD is proposing the closure or repurposing of five campuses at the end of the school year. The proposal includes Dodson, Nathaniel Q. Henderson and Port Houston elementary schools, Fleming Middle School, and Jones High School. Billy Reagan K-8 is set to be rezoned because of changing patterns in the school’s neighborhoods.

The University Interscholastic League announced its realignment for 2014-2016 on Monday, and some Houston ISD football teams will now play schools outside the district. “It’s a new twist for us,” HISD Athletics Director Marmion Dambrino said. “It’s going to be interesting. We’re excited about it. The teams we’re going to be playing are very competitive.”
