Houston Independent School District is hiring bus drivers for the 2023-2024 school year. In collaboration with Human Resources, the Transportation Services Department will host a Bus Driver Hiring Event on Wednesday, Sept. 6, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Northwest Motor Pool complex (6351 Pinemont Drive, 77092).

HISD Athletics hosts second-annual Media Day for student-athletes

Hundreds of HISD student-athletes filled Delmar Fieldhouse Wednesday, Aug. 23, for Athletics Media Day, an initiative created by Athletics Director Andre’ Walker in 2022 to provide high school athletes exposure to professional media training at no cost.

“I think it’s very important for our kids to have some form of training and understanding in how they ought to respond to certain questions they’re being asked in interviews,” said Walker. “If they have an opportunity to receive some proper training, it makes interviewing easier and makes them feel more comfortable.”

HISD provides $1 million in Grow Your Own Grant awards to Texas universities

Houston Independent School District announced three university educator preparation programs will be awarded Grow Your Own grants through HISD’s competitive grant program to create pathways for aspiring educators to become teachers for free and get paid to do so.

HISD’s Grow Your Own grant program funds partnerships with educator preparation programs from Texas public institutions of higher education to prepare future teachers. Participants will be able to earn their bachelor’s degree and Texas teaching license while being paid as a full-time teaching assistant in HISD.

HISD student-athletes named to Touchdown Club’s All-Greater Houston football team

Each year before the start of a new football season, the Touchdown Club of Houston names its Preseason All-Greater Houston UIL High School football team. This year, two HISD seniors were selected to represent the district at the annual Touchdowner of the Year gala, where they were recognized alongside athletes from neighboring school districts.
