HISD launched its sixth of seven Sunrise Centers Tuesday, Oct. 31, at the BakerRipley Gulfton-Sharpstown Campus in a ribbon-cutting ceremony and luncheon.
This center will connect communities in HISD’s West Division with vital resources, programs, and services.

HISD opens Sunrise Center at YDC to serve northeast Houston families
For more than 25 years, the Youth Development Center has been providing elementary students in the North Forest and Scenic Woods neighborhoods with critical after-school care and instruction. Through a new partnership with HISD’s Sunrise Center, they’ll be able to help even more youth thrive academically.
The Center serves up to 120 students in grades 1-6 through its after-school remediation program, free of charge. Most of the students are enrolled in HISD.

Prospective candidates will learn more about the District, career opportunities, and the work involved in key roles. Candidates will also have the chance to ask questions.
HISD opens Sunrise Center at Morefield Boys & Girls Club
HISD opened a Sunrise Center at the Morefield Boys & Girls Club over the weekend with an open house and resource fair. Eventgoers were greeted by the Sterling High School drumline and cheerleaders who hyped up the crowd ahead of their big homecoming game.
HISD’s fourth Sunrise Center will serve the Sterling and Thomas Middle School communities, focusing on support during critical after-school hours between 3-6 p.m.

HISD opened its third of seven Sunrise Centers at the Mission Milby on Wednesday, Oct. 18, with an activity-filled fall festival that included a vendor fair, health screenings, food, a pumpkin patch, and games and giveaways courtesy of the Houston Dynamo.
Sunrise Centers serve to centralize valuable resources for families, and in this case, those in the Milby, Chávez, and Austin High School feeder patterns. While this latest center is new for the District, Mission Milby has been serving Houston’s Greater East End for two decades.

HISD is helping turn young readers into leaders, thanks to a partnership with KPMG’s Family for Literacy (KFFL). The organization donated $10,000 to refresh the library inside the Gregory Lincoln Education Center, and Wednesday, Oct. 18, was the big unveiling.
