Worthing HS community celebrates launch of MBK TeamUp Houston

The Worthing High School community celebrated the launch of My Brother’s Keeper TeamUp’s Houston chapter with a pep rally on Nov. 17.

The celebration featured special guest appearances from the Houston Rockets, Houston Dynamo, Houston Outlaws, Houston Health Foundation, and local radio station 93.7 The Beat.

HISD Fine Arts students unite for unique exhibition supported by local arts organizations

HISD’s Fine Arts Department has combined dance with photography to create a first-of-its-kind exhibition showcasing the artistic relationship between the two disciplines.

Power of Collaboration: Through the Artists’ Lens is on display in the Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center lobby through Dec. 2. An opening reception is being held Thursday, Nov. 17, from 6-8 p.m. Artist recognitions will begin at 6:45 p.m.

HISD to host DREAM Summit workshop to help DREAMers achieve higher learning

HISD’s 2022 DREAM Summit is set for Saturday, Dec. 10, and returns to in person for the first time since 2019.

The free event hosted by College & Career Readiness in collaboration with Multilingual Education will take place from 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center, 4400 W. 18th Street, 77092.

HISD Police Department launches citizen reporting tool for increased safety and accountability

In an effort to further build trust with the community, the HISD Police Department is implementing a new way for the public to report incidents.  

The Axon Citizen for Communities portal is now active on the department’s web page. The new system allows HISD Police to receive video evidence captured by community members through a public submission form. The information provided by citizens will assist officers in solving crimes.

River Oaks ES celebrates Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day

The River Oaks Elementary School community kicked off the week with a victory lap to honor Ruby Bridges’ walk to William Frantz Elementary School in 1960.

Students, administrators, and staff gathered around the school track wearing purple and holding signs to commemorate the symbolic walk.
