Change careers and become a certified teacher in HISD

Houston Independent School District is helping those with a bachelor’s degree looking to make a career change to become a certified teacher.

HISD’s Alternative Certification Program is dedicated to recruiting college graduates from diverse educational and career backgrounds who are passionate about making a bigger difference in the lives of students.

The program is starting a cohort for prospective teachers focused in critical shortage certification areas (ELAR 7-12, Science 7-12, Math 7-12, and Bilingual EC-6). The application will open on June 5, 2023, and the deadline to apply is July 3, 2023.

Wisdom HS honored by City of Houston for being named most diverse public high school in Texas

With a student population representing 53 countries and more than 80 languages spoken, HISD’s Wisdom High School is the most diverse public high school in the state of Texas.

To commemorate the honor, the school was presented with a proclamation by the City of Houston in April—which happens to be Celebrate Diversity Month.

Student artists ride in style at the Houston Art Bike Festival

HISD art clubs and classes assembled at MacGregor Park to take part in the 2023 Houston Art Bike Parade and Festival on Saturday, May 13. Presented by the Houston Parks Board and The Orange Show Center for Visionary Art, the Art Bike Festival is an annual opportunity for students and community artists to showcase their creativity and to explore the bayou trails around the park.
