Kristy Love has been selected as the new principal of Forest Brook Middle School. Love has over 19 years of experience in education. She has served as a teacher and department chair at Hogg Middle School, Assistant Principal at Burbank Middle School, and Dean of Students at Woodson K-8. For the past 8 years, Love has served as principal of Codwell Elementary School. As principal of Codwell, Dr. Love oversaw a 14-million-dollar school renovation.

Michele Rawson has been selected as is the new principal at Mark Twain Elementary. Rawson began her career in Fort Bend ISD, where she taught at the elementary level for a total of ten years. Fifteen years ago, Rawson joined HISD at Mark Twain Elementary. She taught fourth grade for six years and was also the GT coordinator. She has been the Assistant Principal at Mark Twain for the past 8 years.

Anna Montalvo has been selected as is the new principal of Looscan Elementary School. Montalvo has been an educator for 9 years and has served HISD as a teacher, interventionist, and teacher specialist. She has been the Assistant Principal at Looscan since 2018. She was recently named, “Assistant Principal of the Year” for the North Area. She helped Looscan Elementary out of Improvement Requirement (IR) status to having the highest TEA Rating of all Achieve 180 schools in 2019.

Michelle Thomas has been selected as the new principal at Martin Luther King, Jr. Early Childhood Center. Thomas most recently served as a Teacher Specialist at MLK ECC. She began her career in 1996 as a 1st grade teacher at Gregory-Lincoln. She also taught at Milne and Poe Elementary and as a Teacher Specialist at Halpin ECC.
She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Professional Writing from the University of Houston-Downtown and her Master of Education and Administration from Lamar University.
LaKeisha Mays-Ogbor has been selected as the new principal at Hobby Elementary School. Mays-Ogbor most recently served as assistant principal at Madison High School. She began her career in 2005 as a 4th/5th grade Science teacher at Peck Elementary. She also served as a Teacher Development Specialist before moving to an assistant principal at Garden Villas.

She began her career in 2006 as a 1st grade teacher at Martinez Elementary. In 2008, she moved to Smith and has held had various roles including teacher, writing specialist, interventionist, instructional specialist, and teacher specialist.

He began his career in 2009 as a 5th grade teacher at Northline Elementary. He has served as a Teacher Development Specialist and also as an Assistant Principal at Mitchell and Briargrove Elementary.

Continue readingThe Houston Independent School District will host its first Men’s Leadership Summit in June to encourage men to pursue careers in education.
The Men’s Leadership Summit is Saturday, June 5, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Westbury High school. Participants may also take part virtually at Austin, Heights, Sharpstown or North Houston Early College high schools.
There is a growing gender divide among educators in the United States, with men far less likely than women to become teachers and stay in the profession long term. The summit seeks to empower and inspire men to become educators. It will also appeal to high school boys who are interested in education as a career.
As schools across Houston Independent School District prepare for the 2021-2022 school year, several campuses are using billboards to spread the message about their unique programs.
With taglines like “helping students succeed beyond academics” and “Game Changers,” the billboards tout each school’s individual characteristics and encourage surrounding communities to enroll their students in the schools.
