Dimitrie Rainey named new principal of Thomas Middle School

Dimitrie Rainey

Dimitrie Rainey has been selected as the new principal of Thomas Middle School. She most recently has served as principal of Hobby Elementary School.

Rainey has been a member of Team HISD for 15 years. She is an experienced leader, having served students and staff as a math teacher at Ryan Middle School, Blackshear Elementary School, and Hartman Middle School; and as a math coach at Cullen Middle School. She has also served as dean of students at Woodson K-8 and an assistant principal at R.P. Harris Elementary School, and principal of Alcott Elementary School. Rainey holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a master’s degree in Administration and Supervision.

John Flowers named new principal of High School Ahead Academy

John Flowers has been selected as the new principal of High School Ahead Academy. He most recently served as principal of Highland Heights Elementary School.

Flowers began his career at Hohl Elementary School as a second and third grade teacher. He then served as the instructional coordinator at DeChaumes and Roosevelt Elementary schools. Subsequently, he served as the assistant principal at Kashmere High School. Flowers holds a bachelor’s in Business Administration from Prairie View A&M University and a master’s in Educational Leadership from Lamar University.

LaTreia Woodard named new principal of Gregory Lincoln Education Center

Latreia Woodard

LaTreia Woodard has been selected as the new principal for Gregory Lincoln Education Center. She previously served as principal at Foerster Elementary School.

Woodard began her career in education as an intervention teacher in Cy-Fair ISD. Woodard taught a variety of grade levels from kindergarten through seventh grade in Fort Bend ISD and HISD. She continued to develop her leadership skills as a team leader, data specialist, instructional specialist, dean of instruction, and IAT Manager before becoming principal at Foerster.

Houston ISD Board of Education names Millard House as lone finalist for superintendent

After a lengthy process of gathering stakeholder input, a nationwide search that included a diverse pool of applicants, and a comprehensive interview process, the HISD Board of Education has announced Millard House as the lone finalist for superintendent of the Houston Independent School District

House currently serves as Director of Schools (Superintendent) of Clarksville-Montgomery School Systems in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Bellaire HS community says goodbye to iconic building

Bellaire High School brimmed with excitement on Saturday as alumni — some of whom hadn’t walked the halls in more than 60 years — joined with current students to say goodbye to their beloved campus.

With the school set for demolition this summer, Cardinals flocked from far and wide for the Final Building Walk Through, co-hosted by the Bellaire Parent-Teacher Organization and the Alumni and Friends of Bellaire High School.

HISD Fine Arts Extravaganza this Saturday with Miller Outdoor Theatre

The HISD Fine Arts Department is ending the school year in a big way, with a live virtual performance with Miller Outdoor Theatre.

The free virtual event on Saturday, May 22, will feature performances from across the district. The program will include performances from band, choir, piano, guitar, orchestra, dance, theatre, and the visual arts, with students from kindergarten through high school.
