HISD Police Department urges safety during prom, graduation season
As thousands of students prepare for prom season and graduation, the Houston Independent School District Police Department is reminding both students and parents play it safe during the festivities.
Art contest winners for Police Appreciation Week announced
The Houston Independent School District Police Department has announced the winners of its first Police Appreciation Week Art Contest.
Third- through fifth-grade students throughout the district showcased their artistic skills on a range of law enforcement themes, including highlighting any HISD campus officer, honoring a relative in law enforcement, or the different types of law enforcement officers.
“It was amazing to see the themes and imaginations of our third-, fourth- and fifth-graders,” said Lt. Guadalupe Jimenez. “Their illustrations showed the time and effort that was contributed by each student.”
Business Operations announces ‘Service Excellence’ Employees of the Month
Five HISD Business Operations employees were celebrated as Employees of the Month for May during the department’s breakfast with HISD’s Chief Operating Officer Leo Bobadilla on Tuesday.
Every month, five individuals from the areas of Transportation, Police, Nutrition Services, Construction and Facilities Services, and Business Assistance are selected to attend “Breakfast with Leo.” The event serves as a way to recognize district employees who go above and beyond to provide exceptional customer service.
HISD PD to host ‘Protect Your Identity’ shredding event
The Houston Independent School District Police Department wants to help district and community members protect their identity by hosting a free document shredding event open to the public on Saturday, April 25 from 9 a.m.-12 noon.
Personnel from HISD PD and Texas Security Shedding will be on hand during the event at the police department’s headquarters, 3500 Tampa, to shred any document, allowing individuals an opportunity to have their sensitive documents securely destroyed.
Top Business Operations employees enjoy ‘Breakfast with Leo’
As part of the Business Operations Team’s Service Excellence initiative, each of the five divisions designates an Employee of the Month to recognize outstanding performance and excellent customer service. This week, the five Employees of the Month for April had the opportunity to enjoy breakfast with HISD’s Chief Operating Officer, Leo Bobadilla.
“I really enjoy this event and being able to show my appreciation for such great work,” Bobadilla said. “We have a great team, and the recognition is well-deserved.”
Students urged to enter art contest for Police Appreciation Week
The Houston Independent School District Police Department will be hosting an art contest on May 11-15 for Police Appreciation Week.
The department is asking third- through fifth-grade students to showcase their artistic skills on the theme of law enforcement. Some ideas may include:
- Highlighting any HISD campus officer, patrol officer, K-9, bike patrol, or honor guard
- Honoring a relative that is in law enforcement
- The importance of law enforcement
- The different types of police officers, such as federal, state, county or municipal
- Appreciation of any police occupations
- Entry qualifications to become a police officer

HISD police testing new body cameras
More than two dozen HISD police officers are patrolling campuses across the district with small cameras clipped to their lapels as part of a pilot program designed to provide an additional tool in boosting student and school safety.
Twenty-five officers began testing the first cameras this month, wearing them while monitoring schools and responding to various incidents. The department aims to fully outfit the 210-officer department with cameras by the 2015-2016 school year. Continue reading
