Next week, the HISD Board of Education will vote on a district-wide magnet funding formula that is designed to improve equity across programs and increase transparency in the magnet and specialty program funding process. These changes will be presented to the HISD Board of Education for their consideration on June 19 during a special budget meeting.

Confidential surveys can be mailed or completed online
The Your Voice districtwide survey window will be extended for parents, students, administrators and instructional staff until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, June 1.
Survey responses can be sent to the RDA Group, a global market research and consulting firm, by mail or online at https://www.hisdyourvoice.rdagroup.com/survey/. RDA will be responsible for collecting and computing results of the survey to retain your privacy.
Houston Symphony to visit HISD campus as part of free summer concert series
The Houston Symphony is launching its annual series of free summer community family concerts throughout the Houston area, and HISD’s Booker T. Washington High School is on the list of venues.
Symphony musicians will play a program of family-friendly music celebrating composers of diverse backgrounds, ranging from Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony to Ravel’s Suite from Mother Goose, conducted by Robert Franz.

Thousands of Houston ISD seniors will receive their high school diplomas during 42 ceremonies at 12 locations throughout the district beginning at 7 p.m. today (May 30) and continuing through June 8. The schedule is available here.

HISD’s Chief Academic Officer Daniel Gohl presented a comprehensive literacy plan to the Board of Education on Thursday. The plan, Literacy By 3, engages students, teachers, parents, and community members around a common goal: having every student reading with proficiency by Grade 3.
First HISD weather make-up day this week
Parents can request religious exemption for Good Friday
HISD is scheduled to be in session Friday, April 18, as one of two weather makeup days for icy conditions that shut down the district twice in the winter – but parents can have their children exempted from school for religious reasons.
Good Friday is that day, and parents who observe it as a Holy Day with their children may submit a written note to their school documenting the religious observance. The excuse must be received by the school within three days.
