HISD promotes bullying prevention through week-long effort, Oct. 17-21

As part of National Bullying Prevention Month, HISD’s Social & Emotional Learning Department (SEL) is recognizing Oct. 17-21 as Bullying Prevention Week to raise awareness and bring attention to the growing epidemic of bullying and social isolation. Young people who experience bullying may be pulled away from society, struggle with learning and social development, or choose to harm themselves or others.

Campuses are encouraged to participate in daily activities and encourage students and parents to join in to help prevent bullying.

HISD and union leaders challenge area school districts to address workplace bullying

Houston ISD Superintendent Terry Grier and local and state leaders from the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) joined forces on Monday, Feb. 9, to challenge school districts across the Houston area to join HISD in implementing a policy that formally bans workplace bullying.

Dogs of Character Return to HISD to Deliver Anti-Bullying Message to students

What:   Dogs of Character is an anti bullying presentation taught by rescued dogs in which each dog in the cast is a working assistant in the award winning character education program, The Healing Species.  Five dogs will be introduced to the River Oaks students during two school assemblies and will provide them with living examples of perseverance, courage, hope and forgiveness.

Who:    The Healing Species’ Dogs of Character 

When:  Friday, November 30, 8:00 a.m. and 9:00a.m.

Where: River Oaks Elementary, 2008 Kirby
