HISD police chief named to national task force to address student safety

The Council of the Great City Schools (CGCS) and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) have partnered to launch a task force centered on identifying models for collaboration between local police and urban school districts to address the safety of students in urban areas throughout the U.S.

Houston ISD Police Chief Pedro Lopez is among seven law enforcement leaders named to the IACP-CGCS Task Force.

Important notice for private nonprofit schools, neglected and delinquent facilities

HISD notifies all private nonprofit (PNP) school administrators to contact the district regarding participation in ESSA federal grants (Titles I, II, and IV – Part A  / Title I – Part C /  Titles III – Part A, EL and IMM) for the 2022-2023 school year.  Neglected & Delinquent (N&D) facility administrators can contact the district regarding participation in the Title I – Part D, Subpart 2 federal grant.   Participation in a grant is dependent upon the physical location of the school or facility.

An emotional surprise for the Teacher Appreciation Award winner from Hartsfield ES

The HISD Office of Talent presented Hartsfield Elementary School’s DeShawn Beatty with its Teacher Appreciation Award.

When Beatty realized she was being recognized for her tremendous work in the classroom, she began to cry. It’s been a tough couple of years for the first-grade teacher.

‘The Talk’ event promotes positive dialogue with community, law enforcement

As part of HISD’s ongoing effort to promote positive dialogue between youth and law enforcement Navarro Middle School hosted “The Talk” event for eighth grade boys, which featured keynote speaker Marvin Richardson, the Acting Director of the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Superintendent Millard House and Harris County Precinct 2- Commissioner Adrian Garcia were also on hand.
