As the HISD community continues to recover from last week’s storm, the need for investment in our aging facility infrastructure has become even more acute. To engage our community in this discussion as quickly as possible, HISD is announcing the dates for community meetings on the state of HISD facilities. In addition, we are naming the Community Advisory Committee that will drive engagement with the community.

HISD held its sixth annual Career and Military Signing Day on May 16 inside Delmar Fieldhouse. The signature event celebrates seniors graduating from the District’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and who have decided to serve in the military.

As part of its new Continuum of Care model for student wraparound supports, the Houston Independent School District (HISD) is expanding its partnership with Hazel Health to every campus and Sunrise Center in the District. Currently offered at 88 campuses, Hazel Health services will be available Districtwide beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year, giving all HISD students access to no-cost telehealth care conveniently coordinated through their school.

HISD’s 12th annual When I Grow Up career expo will be held Saturday, April 27, from 10. a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center (4400 W. 18th Street, 77092).
More than 100 exhibitors from local companies and organizations and post-secondary institutions will be on hand to help students explore their options in high-demand, high-growth industries. All HISD students in grades K-12 and their families are invited.

As part of its reimagined employee compensation plan, Houston Independent School District (HISD) is raising salaries for Special Education teachers across the board. In the upcoming 2024-2025 school year, the minimum salary for a Special Education teacher will be $80,000. At New Education System (NES) campuses, that number will be $86,000.
